Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: World’s Slimmest Flagship Unveiled in Bold Move Against Apple

Samsung Electronics revealed its slimmest flagship smartphone yet on Tuesday, the Galaxy S25 Edge, which has cutting-edge AI advancements and a sleek, ultra-thin design, in a daring move to beat Apple in the high-end smartphone industry.

The S25 Edge, aimed mostly at tech-savvy consumers in their 20s and 30s who seek portability without sacrificing power, exemplifies Samsung's most recent attempt to combine style and advanced performance.

"Our users made it clear—they wanted a device that's easier to carry while being uncompromising in capability," claimed a Samsung spokeswoman. "We reinvented the interior architecture, reducing components like the cooling system and circuit board to provide an ultra-slim experience."

A Strategic Headstart

According to industry insiders, this announcement is a planned move to steal the spotlight before Apple's expected introduction of a slimmer iPhone later this year.

"Samsung's early introduction provides an opportunity to capture the attention of buyers looking for thinner smartphones," said Ryu Young-ho, senior analyst at NH Investment & Securities. "It's a proactive approach to capture a market area that Apple is also targeting."

Global Launch and Pricing

The Galaxy S25 Edge will be available in South Korea on May 23, followed by a US release on May 30. Samsung announced intentions to increase availability to over 30 countries, including important markets in Europe and China.

The base model will cost $1,099 and include a 6.7-inch (170 mm) display encased in a very thin 5.8mm chassis. Despite being larger than the standard S25, the Edge variant is still lightweight and easy to wield.

AI-Powered Intelligence at the Core

The S25 Edge stands out not only because of its size, but also because it is Samsung's most AI-integrated smartphone yet. The device contains multimodal artificial intelligence, allowing users to interact with it in real time via vision and voice. For example, users can aim their camera at an object or scene and ask queries, which are quickly processed by Samsung's on-device AI.

Engineering Without Compromise

In response to speculation that a thinner body may result in overheating or poor performance, Samsung stated that its experts addressed those issues through intelligent design.

"Concerns about heat and performance are understandable, but we have addressed them head-on," said Moon Sung-hoon, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics. "We developed a next-generation, ultra-slim vapor chamber to manage thermal efficiency, ensuring that the S25 Edge runs smoothly without overheating."

Samsung’s Market Position

Samsung's debut follows on the heels of great momentum. According to Counterpoint Research, the business dominated the worldwide smartphone market in Q1 2025, with a 20% market share, slightly ahead of Apple's 19%.

However, Samsung has warned that second-quarter shipments may be under pressure due to probable tariff-related problems that could impair demand.

Final Thoughts

The Galaxy S25 Edge represents a significant shift in Samsung's design philosophy, with the goal of setting a new benchmark for flagship smartphones that combine ultra-slim aesthetics, robust AI integration, and premium performance. It's unclear whether this innovation will be enough to keep Apple on the back foot, but one thing is certain: the race for the smallest, smartest phone is heating up.
